Mickey Guyton, a contestant from the United States on the hit singing competition television series Singer 2025, described her nearly month-long stay in China as a profoundly healing experience, contrasting sharply with personal struggles faced back home.

In an exclusive interview with China Daily, Guyton expressed deep appreciation for China's family-centric culture, lavished praise on her fellow contestants, and why she dedicated her performance of Firework to co-stars Janice and Ma Jiaqi.

Guyton highlighted her admiration for how China prioritizes children and the elderly, calling it "awesome, important, and really beautiful to see". She specifically cherished memories made with her son in the large playgrounds found in malls.

The series began broadcasting on Hunan Satellite TV and Mango TV on May 16. It generated massive interest thanks to having a mix of live performances from Chinese and international singers.

Guyton acknowledged the challenge of performing iconic hits on the show but stated she feels "very proud" of her accomplishments. Entering the show completely blind, she was highly impressed by its production quality, comparing it to major American network shows. She described her exposure to Chinese artists and genres as "absolutely groundbreaking and eye-opening". She believes the show promotes international exchange through its genuine fans and diverse global lineup.

Guyton spoke glowingly about her fellow contestants: she loved GAI's unique "edge" and energy, enjoyed watching Ma Jiaqi's growth and newfound confidence, called Shan Yichun a fairy, described Chen Chusheng as seasoned, and dubbed Grace Kinstler as "Amazing Grace and a powerhouse". She also praised Janice's "incredible voice" and deep connection with fans. Guyton noted many contestants, including Ma Jiaqi and Janice, are hard on themselves despite their talent.

For upcoming performances, Guyton framed the competition as a challenge for herself to focus on self-love. Her choice to sing Firework was emblematic of that focus, which she shared in common with Janice and Ma Jiaqi based on heartfelt conversations they had about self-perception.
