The centuries-old craft of Wuzhishan Li brocade took center stage at an international fashion showcase in Beijing on Sunday, blending traditional weaving with contemporary design.
The Orchids in Bloom event, part of 2025 China Fashion Week Autumn, featured Li and Miao ethnic textiles from Hainan province reimagined as modern attire. Six distinct ensembles from Wuzhishan city were selected for the presentation. The collection included traditional pieces designed by local artisans and modern fashion created through a collaboration between Wuzhishan's Li brocade inheritors and international designer Vivienne Tam.

The event also featured a complementary showcase of traditional fashion from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore. A separate exhibition booth allowed guests to view Li and Miao ethnic-inspired handicrafts and sample local agricultural products from Wuzhishan.
In recent years, Wuzhishan has pioneered an integrated development model of combining protection, inheritance, and industry to safeguard its cultural roots. This includes establishing inheritance workshops, introducing intangible cultural heritage programs at schools, and promoting crossover projects that integrate intangible cultural heritage with fashion, tourism, and product design.
