Mount Wuyi

Mount Wuyi was inscribed as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site in 1999.

Located at the border of northwest Fujian and Jiangxi province, Mount Wuyi comprises 4 protected areas:the Wuyishan Nature Reserve, the Nine-Bend Stream Ecological Protection Area, the Wuyishan National Scenic Area(which protects natural and cultural landscapes), and the Protection Area for the Remains of the Ancient Han Dynasty. With over 110 peaks averaging more than 1, 000 meters in height, including the highest peak, Huanggangshan at 2, 158 meters, Mount Wuyi is the tallest mountain range in southeastern China and is known as the"Roof of East China. "

Mount Wuyi is the largest, most representative example of a largely intact forest encompassing the diversity of the Chinese Subtropical Forest and the South Chinese Rainforest, with high plant diversity, crucial for biodiversity conservation. It is also home to many ancient Confucian academies, providing an excellent environment for the development and dissemination of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism.
