South China Karst, Phase I, which includes Shilin Karst in Yunnan, Libo Karst in Guizhou, and Wulong Karst in Chongqing, was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 2007. Then, Phase II, which includes Guilin Karst and Huanjiang Karst in Guangxi, Shibing Karst in Guizhou, and Jinfoshan Karst in Chongqing, was inscribed as the extension to the property in 2014.
South China Karst comprises some of the world’s most significant karst landforms, including tower karst, pinnacle karst, and cone karst formations, along with other spectacular characteristics such as natural bridges, gorges, and large cave systems. It stands out as one of the most spectacular karst landscapes in the world within the humid subtropical and tropical zones.
The karst area of South China vividly reflects a complete and distinctive karst evolution process, showcasing the most magnificent and diverse karst landscapes globally. It not only presents the aesthetic value of nature to the world but also serves as a testament to the earth's evolution.
