Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City

The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City were inscribed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2019.

The archaeological ruins of Liangzhu are located in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, in the Yangtze River Delta on the southeastern coast of the country. The property is composed of four areas:the Area of Yaoshan Site, the Area of High-dam at the Mouth of the Valley, the Area of Low-dam on the Plain, and the Area of City Site. They reveal an early regional state with a unified belief system based on rice cultivation. The Liangzhu culture dates back from 5300 to 4300 years, lasting for a millennium during the late Neolithic period. It has profoundly influenced the subsequent five millennia of Chinese civilization.

The archaeological ruins of Liangzhu provide concrete evidence of the characteristics of Chinese civilization, namely diversity in unity and have been preserved in a genuine and complete state. It represents a preeminent prehistoric large-scale settlement site in East Asia, making it a significant milestone in the history of human civilization.
