Artworks by top global stars to go for a 'walk' in Shanghai

Artworks will"walk"out of the Jing'an Sculpture Park and take over the hustle-bustle of Nanjing Road West and banks of the Suzhou Creek from Sep 26 to the end of the year.

The eighth installment of Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Project(JISP), a biennial festival featuring sculptures from home and abroad, will be hosted by the Municipal Administration of Urban Planning and Natural Resources and the Jing'an district of Shanghai. This year the exhibition will be curated by UCCA Lab, an institution under the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art.

Thirty-one artists from 10 countries and regions will be featured in the project this year, with 14 of them from China. The star-studded lineup includes Martial Raysse, one of the most celebrated French artists globally, Daniel Buren, who won the Golden Lion for the Best National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and George Rickey, a prominent kinetic artist of the 20th century known for his precise and poetic sculpture.

Internationally commissioned works include pieces by Swiss artist Claudia Comte, French artist Marc Fornes, and Japanese artist Yuri Suzuki.

Aside from the main exhibition at Jing'an Sculpture Park, the sculptures will be placed at six public spaces, such as the Jing'an Kerry Center, and HKRI Taikoo Hui on Nanjing Road West, as well as the Shuangyong Park by the Suzhou Creek.

A series of other events will take place during the exhibition, engaging wider members of the public.

"We have been holding the JISP every other year since 2010, because we have strong faith in the power of art, and believe having sculptures in the urban public spaces will build real connection between art, the city and people, "said Zhang Xifei, head of the Jing'an district administration of landscaping&city appearance.
